What happened at the track?

South Amherst 4/26/03: At Lorain County Speedway for the Midwest Supermodified Association opener, 22 supermodifieds qualified. Top qualifier on the night was 15-year-old Lee Boss in the red 91 Jaycox Racing super at 12.690. McKnight, Fisher, and Jedrzejek rounded out the top four qualifiers.


Heat race one went through without any problems as Sean Sauer won with Rookie AJ Davis, 18 year old Rookie Moe Lilje, Denny Fisher, 15 year old Rookie Lee Boss, 16 year old Rookie Mike Lichty, 01 Tom Gonczi, 00 Rich Reed, 29 Rusty Ryan, and 4 Dave Dussel rounding out the field.


Heat race two had a few cautions, but finished with Timmy J picking up the win and Randy Burch, Pat Shullick, Jon Henes, Mark Sammut, Don Johnson, Shane Johnson, and Rookie Dave Mumaw.


The Feature started with Don Johnson and Tom Gonczi starting on the front row with a 14-car inversion. Johnson led the opening laps with Burch taking the lead and pulling away. Timmy J and Dave McKnight and Lee Boss started to make their way through the field, but when Boss spun in turn three, that made him go to the back of the pack. Timmy J made the pass for the lead on lap 18 with McKnight hot on his tail. When lap traffic became a factor in both high and low racing grooves, Timmy and Dave just picked their own ways around them. Jedrzejek and McKnight battled for laps until lap 25 of the 30, Dave got around Timmy and never looked back.

May 3rd’s MSA date at Sandusky Speedway was pushed back to May 17th due to paving of the track. Should be exciting to see how many ISMA teams (if any) will make the trip to try to set their cars up for the ISMA show on June 14th. Also, Ed’s Midview Auto has offered a bonus for any driver who competes in the May 17th MSA race and then wins the June 14th ISMA show.
